We have all heard the argument on whether breakfast is the most important meal of the day or not. Here at Daioni Organic, we’re championing breakfast! Eggs, pancakes, smoothies, cereal – the breakfast possibilities are endless! We’ve put together this handy guide to help you get the most out of your breakfast so you can start your day happy and energised.

 

A Balanced Breakfast

A balanced breakfast will contain a combination of food groups to provide a range of macro and micronutrients to fuel you for the day ahead. We recommend:

Protein
Essential for growth and repair in the body, protein can be sourced from meat, fish, eggs, beans as well as milk and other dairy products. Did you know that just one glass (200ml) of milk can provide 14% of an adult’s daily recommended protein? Not only that, but it also contains all 9 essential amino acids which perform varied roles in the body from muscle growth to energy production.

A study in the British Journal of Nutrition saw that a nutritious breakfast high in protein can reduce sleepiness and aid in good task performance so grab a carton of Daioni Organic in the morning to give you some protein power!

Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are our main source of energy as well as being a great provider of fibre which aids digestion. Try to choose wholegrain varieties of bread and cereal as these contain more fibre and will slowly release energy so your breakfast will see you through till lunchtime!

Fruit & Vegetables
Don’t forget your 5 a day! It is recommended by the UK government that we consume at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day to keep our bodies topped up with much needed vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Vitamin C is needed to protect cells in the body and helps to maintain health skin. Get all the vitamin C you need per day from one just glass of orange juice. Bananas are an excellent source of B1 (also known as Thiamin) to help the body break down and release energy from food so they’re a winner for breakfast time. Pack in a couple of portions of fruit at breakfast and you’ll be well on your way to achieving your 5 a day!

 

Breakfast Recipe Ideas

Here’s a few suggestions of our favourite healthy, balanced breakfasts:

• Breakfast smoothie, packed with oats, berries and Daioni Organic Whole Milk
• Grab and go breakfast of homemade fruit and nut flapjack washed down a with Daioni Organic Caffe Latte
• Scrambled egg with spinach on wholemeal toast

Top Tip
Many fruits freeze well so buy them in season and pop them in the freezer. Even bananas can be chopped up and frozen – add them to a breakfast smoothie and you’ll save a few minutes in the morning!
