Carry on reading for some quick tips on how to cut down on your sugar intake and our recommendations on low sugar snacks!
5 Tips to cut your sugar intake
1.Choose low sugar products
Many food products you buy are also available in low sugar or sugar free options. Always check the labelling to find out how much added sugar is in the products that you’re buying. Avoid foods that contain more than 22.5g of sugar per 100g, this is considered as a high sugar content.
2. Choose natural sugars to satisfy your sweet tooth
If you’re craving something sweet, head for the fruit bowl instead of picking up a chocolate bar. Fruit is made up of natural sugars, most of which is fructose which won’t spike your blood sugar levels.
3. Avoid processed foods, opt for whole foods instead
Processed foods are much more likely to contain higher levels of sugar as it’s what makes them so addictive! My opting for whole foods instead you can be sure there are no added sugars and know that you’re making a healthier choice.
4. Make your own snacks
Get creative in the kitchen and recreate your favourite snacks at home. This way you know and have control of how much sugar you’re putting in.
5. Add different flavourings to replace loss of sweetness
Herbs and spices such as cinnamon or vanilla have a naturally sweet flavour so will trick your taste buds into thinking you’re having a lovely, sweet treat! You could add these to your morning porridge or natural yogurt snack.
